About Tom Vater
Tom Vater is a writer and editor working predominantly in Asia.
He has published four novels, The Devil’s Road to Kathmandu, currently available in English and Spanish, and the Detective Maier trilogy which includes The Cambodian Book of the Dead (2012), its follow-up The Man with the Golden Mind (2013), and finally The Monsoon Ghost Image (2018).

My Thoughts
There’s a political tone and environmental activist elements that are painted into a colorful story that’s essentially a thriller set in a possible future where climate change makes the world go crazy. The villain was my favorite, I reckon, and that’s because you need a BAD bad guy to really dig deep and be heroic. The story doesn’t disappoint, and the chase goes into space at one point, though in a modern understanding of shuttle flight rather than a sci-fi way. Overall it was fun and I’d like to see more dystopian thrillers by this author.
